Paul de Man: August 26 - Member of the Month

Congratulations to Paul de Man our August Member of the Month.

Paul has been a member of Key to Life for over 12 incredible years and has continually worked hard at maintaining his health and fitness not only for his day to day routine but to also allow him to compete in countless Ironman Series over the years.

Paul started 1:1 Personal Training with KTL with his daughter Morgan as well as participating in the Group Outdoor Sessions and the Running Sessions. This helped him overall strength as well as improve his cardio and running endurance.

Paul always strives to get the most out of his body and every session he attends and is joined most school holidays by his lovely wife Kez.

Congratulations Paul on your amazing journey so far with KTL and for being our August Member of the Month. Good Luck with your Ironman, you are an Deadset Legend.

Over to you Paul:

1. What motivated you to start your health and fitness journey with Key to Life?

How we first got involved with KTL Group --- I remember driving past KTL and saw the advertising sandwich board re PT & Group Training… as I was a tad unfit and overweight at that time, my daughter Morgan and I discussed joining KTL, which we did.

We joined Group Classes, Running Group on Saturday mornings with Rohan, PT sessions with Lisa, we had a lot of fun and enjoyment with the variety these sessions provided.

2. What is it that keeps you attending your Key To Life session or sessions on a regular basis?

Kerrie & I believe in the notion of “Built to Move" from a Health and Fitness standpoint.

A couple of books we often refer to are (1) Dr Peter Larkins book “The Healthy Hundred” and (2) Built to Move by Juliet & Kelly Starrett where there is an emphasis on the importance of exercise... we also remember my Mum (Oma) still exercising in her 90’s at the age care community she lived at in St Helena… hence attending KTL in the mornings with Rohan, whether it’s cold, hot, rainy or windy reminds us of the importance of exercise to our health and wellbeing.

The other motivating factor is the wonderful people we get to train with. For us, KTL has always been graced with wonderful people training together. This included the Boxing Group, the Running Groups, and the Exercise Group Sessions we currently attend.

3. What is your favourite Key to Life Training session or favourite exercise and why?

Burpees, Mountain Climbers, Commandos – such an array of wonderful exercises to do, for long periods of time 😊…. In all serious, the most enjoyable exercises are just fronting up, and seeing what new and challenging exercises and routines Rohan has prepared for each morning… All exercises are “GREAT”….

4. If you use any Key To Life recipes, what is your favourite?

We haven’t tried any of the KTL recipes but we do eat quite healthy and fuel our bodies in order to get the best out of every session and the demands that each work day brings.

5. What is your biggest accomplishment you have achieved during your time with us at Key to Life?

I would suggest our biggest accomplishment is continuing to turn up… Kez says, “getting up Outlook Drive” some of the morning crew might also attest to this feat 😊 … as we approach our retirement years (not quite there yet) it is our plan to stay connected to KTL and to keep exercising as long as we can.

6. What advice would you give somebody just starting at Key to Life?

Everyone will have their own reasons for starting out at KTL and be based on the person’s individual motivations.

Our discussions are always about staying healthy, that is from both a physical and mental wellbeing, and we believe Key to Life provides a great safe place, challenging, and loads of fun to allow this to occur.
